Somali Minority Rights and Aid
Forum is a newly established
nonprofit organization in
Minnesota .

SOMRAF is different than other
Somali organizations established
inside United States , it aims
to help Somali communities as
well as minority clans who
suffered discrimination and
economic marginalization inside
Somalia . They are facing
cultural problems and social
segregation from Somali people
only by produce traditional
hand-crafts, blacksmith,
fabricate metal and agricultural
tools, fishing, boat building,
carpentry, tannery, shoe-making,
leather producing, farming,
tailoring, hair dressing & all
other jobs which are considered
by Somalis as a menial casts
work or tasks.
Social segregation is a
deep-rooted social issue that
divides the Somali society into
two categories; Laandeer ( Long
branch- majority and noble) and
Langaab (short branch- minority
and inferior). In Somalia , it
is generally the case that noble
groups are those belong to the
culturally dominant group of
transhumant pastoralists, who
form nearly sixty per cent of
the total population.

Groups that are not pastoralist
are often considered inferior or
minority groups. It is important
to note nonetheless that not all
non pastoralists are minorities.
These social problems have a
negative impact on youth,
children and families living
inside United States, which are
creating identity crisis, social
tension, hatred crimes, and
feelings of isolation.
SOMRAF is
anti-discrimination anti-poverty
organization that helps a
victimized indigenous people
from Somalia. This discriminated
community faces exceptional
challenges and need exceptional
attention. |
